Car rental allows people to temporarily have access to a car when they cannot use their own such as when their own car has been damaged, when travelling abroad, or when they wish to rent a car for a particular occasion. Car rental also allows industries to rent heavy goods vehicles such as trucks or vans.

When cars are rented for a holiday, it gives the freedom of being able to travel to different areas and see different sights, which is particularly good for rural areas, and is cheaper than using a taxi. Car rental companies may also offer spacious minivans for rental which allows people to travel with their families for road trips. Large locations such as America can take weeks to explore, and car rental gives visitors the chance to make the most of their trip and pack in everything that they plan to do. Tourist attractions are much easier to get to.

Some companies also offer customers the chance to rent a car with Satellite Navigation, which will help the customers to be directed through various locations. There are also luxurious cars available for people who wish to rent out a car for special occasions, and some companies allow their customers to rent out cars which suit the locations which the customer is visiting to help them travel in style, such as convertibles so that visitors can travel to the Grand Canyon in Arizona in style, or limousines to give a celebrity feel during a trip to Los Angeles.
