According to World’s Best Awards 2006 in the Travel and Leisure section, readers named the Singita Private Game Reserve, located in Sabi Sands, South Africa, as the top hotel of 2006. This hotel received favourable reviews amongst readers, and contains chic lodges, with a mod colonial to an ultramodern style. There are five luxury safari lodges within the hotel, each styled differently. The hotel has four restaurants and four bars, along with luxurious amenities.
The Inn at Little Washington also appeared on the list, and was the first establishment in the Mobil Travel guide to receive 5 stars both for its accommodation and restaurant. The hotel has also received a string of awards, including Best Service, Best Wine List and Restaurant of The Year, along with being voted into Top Ten Best Restaurants in The World by the International Herald Tribune. The hotel has luxurious rooms with garden views and balconies, along with countryside lunches, which are arranged by staff who will pack picnics for their guests and offer suggestions for the best countryside routes. There is top cuisine offered in the restaurant, prepared in a kitchen that has been named ‘The most beautiful kitchen in the world’.
Inverlochy Castle located in Fort William, Scotland made an appearance on the list. This 5 star hotel has antiques-filled interiors, a total of 17 rooms and good views. Each rooms has its own design, with views of the surrounding mountains and a range of amenities, including a laptop with internet access, a personal safe, CD player and DVD player. The hotel has wedding and business facilities, along with a rage of facilities and activities for children, such as games consoles, games room, horse riding, babysitting facilities, children’s dinner and tea menu and much more. A string of celebrities have stayed at the hotel, with Charlie Chaplin being the hotel’s first celebrity guest.
Also on the World’s Best Awards 2006 in the Travel and Tourism section were at least eight Asian hotels, each of which made it into the top ten.
